moving on but i have great parts for a vacationer
Posted by: keithmclean - 12-09-2018, 12:24 PM - Forum: Builders Bulletin Board - No Replies

My Vacationer Whippoorwill has seen some great days on the water, unfortunatly she's in need of serious work to make her seaworthy again. Her keel was glassed and water got behind the glass and rotted her out. It has found its way into the bottom of the boat. She has some great parts that would be useful to a builder in the prosses. She's got a great set of dacron sails, 4 stainless eliptical portholes, all spars are in good shape with rigging and chainplates, a beautful teak bow hatch, lots of mahogany trim inside and out, mahogany wheel  with all the steering grear, all stainless hardware and a trailer with good tires and new axle to take it home. $1500 seems like a fair price for all the useable parts for a builder or if someone wamts to take the time to repair her that would be even better. I'm moving on to a bigger boat and need to find her a new home. My other option is to strip her down and sell the pieces. if youre interested send me a text at 404 642 six five two nine. I'd love to find someone who can use her

Keith

Weekeknder plans arrived in South Arica!

Dear good yacht builders and specially the Stevensons!

On the 31st of August 2018, Mike and Susanne informed me that my plans were posted.

Today is the 22nd of November 2018 and it thus rook 83 days to get here!

Thanks a lot for the good plans. I am intending to spend some good quality time reading it and building a beautiful boat in my head.... until I saved up enough money to get going.

May the building of these wonderful boats never stop!

Regards

Zoom Rindel

Hi all,

I’m Rob, and I live in California. I’m thinking of building a Weekender for my son and I to learn to sail and have a father-son project. Hopefully I’ll be full of questions real soon.

I now have the upper rub rails fitted, and the hull sides trimmed. The main hatch is all glued up, and work continues on the stringer war in the cockpit. Photos to follow soon...

The drawings do not talk about attaching the hatches to the deck. How has everyone else hinged or attached the forward hatch???

How many miles of 1x1 stringers does it take to build a vacationer? I figure that the cockpit seats will take at least 70 feet, and I know that the step/seat that goes in the hatchway took 17 feet of stringers. When you realize that a lot of the stringers have to be cut at an angle, It takesa lot longer to do all of the small stuff than it took to do the main hull.

The mast box is glued in, and I just finished gluing both sides on. With all of the joints being scarfed, you have to assemble the whole side in one shot.  All of the portholes are cut, and the port side the top is trimmed. Working on getting the seat bases fitted.

Now that I have figured out the photos, here are some more to look at. The first should be a shot of the inside of a built up boom...

Next should be a view of the hatchway

And if this works right, there should be a photo of a birdmouth mast{unfinished)

I came across an old BYYB buddy on Facebook and thought I would pop in and say hello.  Everybody's projects are looking amazing.  Surprised my account still works after all these years and even more surprised that I remember my password.

Hope all is well,

Jon
