I've been trying to track down the sea shantys heard in the Master and Commander movie.

I finally had a breakthrough on the "Don't forget your old shipmates" song and others mentioned in the Patrick O'Brian books - which I'm re-reading for the 4th time.

Many of the songs were composed by Richard Leveridge http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Leveridge The ONLY available CD that I've found that includes these songs is by Jerry Bryant http://www.filbert.com/pvfs/artists/Jerr...efault.htm who replied to my email last night letting me know that I can buy his CDs (he has a couple) from CDBaby.com

The preview of the songs seem quite good and I'm looking forward to hearing them in full. It seems just the thing for a storm-tossed winter evening with a good book and a glass of grog.
I can make some recommendations for sea shanty music:

Kate Rusby's album "Ten" is golden. Lots of excellent sea shanties, but mostly in the vein of lovely tear-jerkers.

If you like your shanties wild, and maybe a bit off-key, then the "Pyrates Royale" are the way to go. I have their "Lyve behind bars" CD. It's excellent, but because it's live, and they're drunk, sometimes you have to ignore some sour notes. If you like your shanties perfect, get one of their non-live CD's.

Enjoy! Big Grin
