Hello,
I bought a set of weekender plans some time back but never built, due to multiple reasons. Money, space .......so on.
Recently I've been thinking about building a boat again, but want to stick with a plywood boat and wanted to do something along the lines of a larger rowboat/sail boat. I weigh in at around 265 lbs and want to be able to sail with at least two other adults so I want a large cockpit.
I had been looking for some boat plans but then got the idea that I may be able to modify the weekender LOA 19'6" plans. Taking out the cabin for an open cockpit. The very front of the boat could have a small storage area that would also incase the mast. Because the cabin would be eliminated I'd image extra (thick) bracing would need to be placed strategically.
Is this possible? Done before? Or a bad idea?
You guessed it, I'm all thumbs and know nothing about boat building, so if you think it would be to tricky of a project, let me know. Maybe give me a few directions to look in, for something I'm looking for.
Thanks,
John 10e
