I've been following the R2AK and I couldn't find the Weekender Kingsfold. Has anyone heard anything? I hope everything is going well.
Thanks Paul. I was on the actual R2AK site that showed all the participants yesterday and positions in the preliminary stages as they traveled to the first stop but there was no Kingsfold. The site said that if you couldn't locate a specific yacht, then perhaps it did not have a working transponder. I guess we'll find out soon.
Here I am...

Thanks for asking.

Unfortunately, life being what it can be at times, I am still building my boat.

We made it onto the official website https://r2ak.com/2017-teams-stage-one/team-kingsfold/ and list of teams qualifying for the first leg (showing as Did Not Start https://r2ak.com/wp-content/uploads/2016...nish-2.pdf ). My teammate, Ed, and I attended all the meetings for the racers in Port Townsend that week. We just weren't able to hop in the boat and sail off into the mist...

Turns out it was probably for the best. The more I learn (and we picked the brains of a lot of racers from previous years), the more I see I need to learn, particularly about sailing in some of the more-challenging water on the planet for maybe a couple of weeks next June. Ed and I are very determined to be ready and qualified for the full Race all the way to Ketchikan in 2018. Follow my construction blog at https://kingsfoldsailboat.blogspot.com/ and our Team Kingsfold website (separate from the R2AK one) Kingsfold-R2AK.com

This year, there is one boat (Team Rush Aweigh) that is fairly similar to mine. Last year there were three or four different monohull boats in the same length range. And if you want to watch this year's Race unfold, go to http://tracker.r2ak.com/ where you can see that a Stand Up Paddleboard (Team Heart of Gold) is well ahead of several sailboats, including Team Rush Aweigh...[/url]

Glad to hear you are OK. I'll keep following and look forward to 2018.

My teammate, Ed, has been helping me more lately with the stuff I can't do on my own. Here's a picture made yesterday with three of the four hull panels dry-fit. (The fourth is permanent.)
