anyone lse watching the youtube series "totalboat skiff build" ?
amazing detailed build of a nice skiff design, 36 episodes so far , features a very experienced builder. if you want some boat building porn, check it out
That's an old school clamming skiff build, which produces a nice tough boat, but the traditional build methods, also result in a heavy and usually leaky boat too. Any time you have to steam pieces on a flat bottom/slab sided boat, you're really not working efficiently. Now, this is the way it used to be done and the work is fine, just way more than necessary, compaired to a modern build method for the same type of boat.
I also watch these vids from time to time.  I mostly watch to see if I can find a shop technique that I can use in my own work.  I agree with Paul though that there are better ways to do things nowadays, but it is worthwhile to watch an old school craftsman work.  I am a yuge fan of The Woodwright's Shop on PBS.  Roy Underhill is my hero.  He is the only other person I know who's hands are as garfed up as mine.

I just like the thought process he explains as he's working, i was surprised that he didn't glass the boat though. I looked at the totalboat website, they sell a wide range of epoxy products , no idea how they compare price wise though
I really enjoy watching how they build a boat from start to finish.
