Why maintain active  forums like "Modifications, Shop Tips & Jigs " if there are no readable pictures, no sketches and no working link?

It is quite annoying to read a title about something interesting and then find only few lines of a generical description that refers to a picture or a link that doesn't exist anymore.
They should be a library that keep track of past experiences, but in this way it is totally unuseful.

After a while, older threads are "archived" to save band width and storage space. Considering the huge number of threads, with photos and drawings linked, imbedded and attached within each, the forum would become swollen with data, most of which hasn't seen activity for many years. So, the threads are condensed and the links or imbedded images remain, but attachments do drop off. Since most posters attach their files, gaps remain in the archived files. At least this is my, likely primitive outlook, on this condition.

Frank or someone with a better understanding of the way files are stored maybe able to further enlighten you on these issues. Is there a particular issue you where looking to get information on?
We do not intentionally delete any content unless it is unsuitable (junk links, porn and so on) but the poster of the content can delete it an any time.

We have had a couple of site crashes over the years and some content was lost but the largest group of lost content comes from people hosting images on their own sites and linking to them to display.  They will change ISPs, delete unwanted stuff to save space and so on then the image disappears from our site.

If you find a post with missing images or broken links, please send me a message with a link to the post with the missing material.  If you do this, I might be able to locate the material in our backups or contact the original poster to see if they still have a copy but I have to know exactly what I am looking for. There is no-one actively checking older posts for images so if something goes missing, I will not know about it until someone tells me.

I'm sorry you couldn't see what you were looking for.  Let me know which post and I will be happy to see if I can get it back for you.
I'm used sometime to read past threads to learn something of new or to find inspiration for new works.
In this moment I don't remember what I was looking for, but now I know that next time I can ask you instead of complain.
Thank you.

I'm guilty of posted images linked to other sites, so I'll try to embed them from now on . . .
