Just spent the day swooning over the many sailing ships on display in the Duluth harbor. If one of these events is heading your way, it's definitely worth the effort! I have many great ideas for solutions to nagging little issues sailing and trailering my Vacationer.
Greetings John,

I guessing that the cannon on Niagara ...

... will see some action in the Battle of Lake Erie,
Put-in-Bay, September 2, 2013.

A few years back, Niagara and Pride of Baltimore went at it just outside the breakwater at the end of Navy Pier - thunderously good fun, and heavy choking smoke descended on all! These boats are not just to look at, as you can book passage for a "three hour tour" and go sailing if you are so inclined. I have sailed on many, "crewed" on a few, and it was always a "blast" - though lately, it has been getting expensive. Tis a shame that HMS Bounty will not be back - ever. The last time she was here they closed the Lake Shore Drive bridge as she was sailing underneath to dock on the Chicago River, and they managed to strip off the fore top gallant mast and rigging.  Oops.

Cheers,
Tom
