Hi from Australia

Just wanted some feedback on powering a weekender. If going electric how would a 55lb thrust do the job adequately compared to a 3.0 to 3.5 hp petrol outboard? What would push a weekender along best if motoring up wind in a river current? Would a 2hp do the job also and long or short shaft? Thanks phil
Hi Phil.  I have a 55 lb. thrust trolling motor, but I gave up on it because it's difficult to buck headwinds or a current with that little power.  I bought a 5 hp Mercury 4 stroke long shaft...more than enough power for any conditions.  The motor ends up being mounted rather high on the Weekender, hence the long shaft.

Greetings Phil,

If you navigate your way on the BYYB web site to -> Forums -> Builders Bulletin Board and then type "gas engine" or "electric motor" in the search box in the upper right hand corner of the page, you get interesting posts such as these ...
