hello..............I've been sailing my weekender for a couple of years here in n.c. and have yet to successfully heave to when soloing...............especially when pressed..............it doesn't want to stay put while I leave the tiller.....................I'm missing something................am I expecting too much?          thanks  bruce
Can you describe the method you employ when attempting to heave to?

Every boat I've tried this on, reacted differently and each had their own "sweet spot" in this regard. A Weekender will hove off fairly well, nicely skidding along at about a knot or two. This is typical of long keel boats, though her shoalness, particularly aft, will mean you can make pretty good leeway.
Bruce if you have the jib backwinded and the tiller to leeward in her sweet spot the boat will still want to sail off on the main... ease the main until it begins to luff and the boat should quite right down.
