I know this is not the place for a political statement. However, after just spending a week working in the lower ninth ward I appeal to your compassion. 7 months after the storm it looks like a few days after the storm. These folks need help, they have been abondoned by the government and largely forgotten.
I worked with the Common Ground Collective, they are THE folks working in the trenches. They work on the principle of "solidarity, not charity". If the home owners needs a crew for 5 days to gut their home they must give back 5 days.

I appeal to you to get a group of friends, co workers, youth group.... whoever you can find and go help these people. If you can't go, send supplies..... nails, gloves,etc or send a donation. These folks are doing remarkable things with nothing but grit, determination, and lots of elbow grease. You won't see this on FOX news!
