Hello all,

Well, with winter at our doorstep, and snow shovels seeing active use, it's time to think back on the 2005 memories, and move forward in crafting new ones.

Historically, we've attended the Cleveland Mid-America boat show in January, enjoyed the boats, and either spent the evening before, or the evening of the boatshow visit to throw together a framework for sailing events and the like.

We've had some fleet members move away, and we no longer have the core of membership based in North Central Ohio, so this may not be feasible this year. That being said, I've decided to get the ball rolling a little earlier this year.

From May through October, I'd like to see a get together once a month, sailing or otherwise. Pymatunning on the Ohio/Pennsylvania border is always a great time for all, but there are other waters to explore. Lets get the ideas flowing. Who knows of some great waters to sail, places to visit, or even expects to need a hand building their own boat in the next year?

Lets get the ideas flowing, get the details on the '06 season ironed out and get ready to leave this snow in our wakes as soon as possible!
Howdy from down south! My family and I plan on driving up to Ohio early summer to visit all of our friends and I hope to get in an over the weekend sail on Pymatuning. Probably will try and time it so I can make cabbs week at Pymatuning.
BTW, I also want to go to the BEER cruise down here in Florida which is June 2nd to the 5th. So I won't be coming up that weekend.
Beer cruise, huh? I can see how that might take priority. Smile

How's everyone doing on your end? I hope you all had a good christmas and new years.

Our kids did well indeed. We're still looking for new and inventive ways to come up with new storage for their loot.
Everything is great in Georgia! If we can only get the Ohio house sold we will be golden.
You're not the only one we know of having trouble selling at the moment. Some friends are trying to dump a condo before two mortgages sink them, and one of our neighbors has been trying to relocate to Seattle for about 4 months, but can't get rid of his house either. His family's been there without him for a while now.

By the way, what are you taking to the BEER Cruise? Your Little Gem is open decked, and all the boats listsed on the 2005 event seem to have cabins, you got something else under construction I don't know about?
I have plans but nothing under construction. I have been assured that little gem will be just fine in the waters they plan on sailing. I am going to make a boomtent and a platform.
Scott,

You'll have to give me a full accounting of the trip. I really want to take the plunge and give that cruise a go, but our skills just aren't up to par at this stage, and I've got too much to do to our poor boat for that many miles of sailing. After reading the account of that trip from a weekender perspective, I am really interested in going, perhaps as early as the '07 season!

If we can secure kid sitting for 2 weeks, it would be like a honeymoon for Dawn and I, since we never really got one, and it would make a great 10 year anniversary present for the pair of us. Plans are in motion to be sure that both the boat and the pair of us will be ready!
I will give you a full account if I make it. I looked at the route, the company, and your current sailing skills and I would say you don't have much to worry about. I guess doing it in a 12' boat will be a good test though. Might set a record for the smallest boat yet on the BEER cruise. Another challenge down here I want to do is the Everglades challenge. Now that requires skill and preparration especially in a beach launchable boat! Little Gem, my 12' catboat, might be a great boat for this challenge though I would hate to row her for long.

Any news on when the CABBS week at pymatuning will be?
That everglades challenge looks like a handfull. I've thought about that one before too. By the accounts I've read, I'd need a week to recover from that "vacation", and I'd be covered in mosquito bites ... they seem to love me. Definitely more a challenge cruise than Beer.

I'll keep in mind BEER for the '06 season if things work out, I may just make it down for that beer cruise after all ... can't hurt to plan for it, just in case, right? If we can get a sitter, one willing to keep the kids for two weeks it'd be perfect. Smile
