Ahoy all, just a quick note to say Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to all BYYB members. All our vessels in the True North Fleet are tucked under cover, have been for several months. Looking forward to 2011 sailing season in 6 months.

Greg
I'll think of you on my Christmas day sail Greg. It'll be 73 degrees so I'll probably need a heavy sweater, but I'll struggle through some how.

Merry Christmas everyone . . .

Thanks Paul, we still have the 24 hour sailing by daylight in June cornered. Enjoy your Christmas sail.

Greg
Ever since coming down here many years ago, I've enjoyed a Christmas day sail. There where many winters I couldn't indulge myself this way and now am grateful that I can. It was a beautiful, sunny day, high in the mid 70's and I had the A/C on for Christmas diner, which I'm now attempting to digest.
Just to wet your appetites for June...I'm going sailing for New Year's eve - will be on my friend's 20 foot sailing yacht 'Elysian' and camping in the sand dunes on the shores of beautiful Port Stephens in New South Wales, Australia - it was 32 degrees celcius today!!! Happy Christmas to all.

pic of our daughters and a friend at Port Stevens a few years ago; still as beautiful!
Merry Christmas all!  Since temperature and weather have been mentioned I would just like to point out that it is summer at the South Pole and warmer there then many cities in northern US states and much of Canada.  I am not sure that swimming or sailing would be advisable but to each their own.  Happy New year and may this year see the launch or relaunch of many a wood built boat.
Merry Christmas, we had -30C (-22F) on Christmas Eve.

How´s that for sailing weather ;D
That's a bit more then heavy sweater weather for me Timo. I hope you had a pleasant holiday in spite of the outside temperature.
Greetings all,

I got a new Christmas Present ...

Hey, just because the water is hard doesn't mean you cannot go sailing. Check out the boys from Wisconsin who went sailing on Christmas Day at Lake Mendota, Madison, Wi. (http://www.iceboat.org/photosreports.html). Not only did they go sailing, they actually raced! They even took along a GPS and recorded their tracks (pre-race tune up http://geoff-s.net/tracks/20101226_114357.html and then the actual racing http://geoff-s.net/tracks/20101226_135915.html). The gps tracks are color-coded for speed, and if you look closely, you can see the boys were sailing at upwards of 30 mph.

Wow, I can sense the conflict in Paul all the way up here. Sailing fast, need for speed, ... but it's freaking cold ... speed ... but it's freaking cold ... speed ...

Cheers,
Tom
