Does anyone know how to contact Phil Gowans, builder of the Weekender "Aloha"?  His website has been taken down, and e-mails are returned as undeliverable.  His site had some good ideas, a wealth of drawings and illustrations, ands great construction photos.  Unfortunately I didn't archive any of it!

Dave
There is a site that archives past websites.  It is called tha waybackmachine.  Here is a link:

http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

When you go there, there is a place to enter a website and they attempt to pull up past pages and images for the website you have entered.  I was able to pull up Phil's old website and images by entering:

http://www.pragdata.com/philboat/ConstructionPage.html

You can't use the link off the BYYB members list yo have to have the link above, which I still had in my favorites list.  Not all the pictures were there but only 3 or so each page were missing.  The longer you wait the more might cease to exist.  The archived pages will take some time to load so don't give up if the little hour glass just keeps spinning.  Let it spin you will get the images.  Good luck and Good hunting!

I hesitate to empower this group with such power (just kidding) as they may lose time and/or sleep due to brousing old archived sites.

I have attached one of Phil's pictures so you can see the quality of the archived picures.  It is one concerning the building of the seats in the cockpit area.  I renamed it p1.  It and several others were on one of phils pages from Feb 2001.
Thanks, Terry!  Just the info I'm looking for.  As a matter of fact, Phil's seat treatment is one of the main mods I was after.  Thanks.

Dave
I tried the link and it doesn't look like any of Phil's info is there any longer.

Too bad it was a wealth of information.

Ken
Ken,

When I use the link, in connection to the wayback machine it brings up all of the info except 2-3 pictures.  You need to navigate to the wayback machine site using this link:

http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

once there you need to enter this link/information into the box on the wayback machine page:

http://www.pragdata.com/philboat/ConstructionPage.html

make sure there aren't two "http://" in the box then choose take me back.

You can't just click the philboat link it goes no where.  Dave was able to get to the pictures and I just tried it again and it worked fine.  Either you tried the link directly or perhaps had to many "http://" in the text box.  Try it again and good luck.
It's good to see I was missed. I'm still alive, however my company was sold. The website was hosted by the old domain. I don't know if I will try to bring it up again. I do have a new e-mail address: pgowans@wdco.com.
Phil:  Glad you're still around.  And your website lives on in the "Wayback Machine".  You've had some great ideas, and the photos have undoubtedly helped a lot of builders like myself.  I'm glad we still have access.

Dave
Phil, I also am glad you checked in.  You've been an inspiration to so many folks, me included.  I've got to find a burgee like you have for "Aloha", the Hawaiian State flag.  I'm over here till June and I haven't found one yet.  Guess I'm not looking in the right stores yet.  We're going to an air show at Hickham AFB tomorrow so I'll have my eyes open.  How's "Aloha" holding up by the way?  My boat needs some major repairs that I'm looking forward to doing next summer.

Steve,

I envy you there in Laie. I spent some time there. I also lived in New Zealand 2 years with some Maoris and Samoans. One thing that frustrates me about Hawaii is that I have not been able to find any sailing canoes for rent. Maybe you can have more luck.

I don't recall where I got my burgee. I thought it might have come from one of the flag manufactures here in Utah, but they only seem to have the 3'x5' as their smallest. I found a place that sells 12"x18" sizes at: http://www.flagco.com/flags/stateflags/h...door.shtml

Since I move my boat into the 3 car garage I haven't done any maintenance. (Nor have I needed to do much.)  I have only been out with here once in May this year. I MUST get out before it gets too cold to go. This whole thing about having no vacations or sick days for the last 2 years has been hard on me. Also, the new house and having my Dad move in with us has eaten a lot of time. I have got to get out again this year!
