Hi guys,

I spent part of the day running my keel lumber through the joiner working on a getting a straight edge.  Towards the end of the day I hopped on the lathe to play around with some mock ups for my deadeyes. (poplar is cheaper practice than Lignum Vitae!)

Attached are a couple of pics:

These ended up being about 3 inches in diameter with 7/16 holes.

I have not cut the relief into the edges of the holes to alleviate chafe as of yet.

Cheers,

Cool...Poplar has a very nice grain and color....I think some nice shiny Brass would look good and could double as an anchor Smile
Nice job on the turnings! I'm planning deadeyes myself, but I've yet to decide on a wood species.  I'm also planning on building my own blocks.  I picked up some elm wood for the blocks - a traditional choice due to it's interlocking grain.

David, it looks like those deadeyes will be nice and salty looking.

Very nice Dave, beautiful job.  I did mine on a table saw because that was the only tool I had available at the time.
