Full Version: Attaching the transom

The hull bottom is attached to the keel, filleted and completed.  Hull bottom stringers are attached, and the bulkheads, transom and lazarette front cut out.  Any tips on installing the transom and lazarette front given their tight curves?

Dave
I used a couple of ratcheting cargo straps to help bend the transom to conform with the curve at the top.  Take your time and an extra set of hands helps.  Good Luck.
A clamp/fabric tape combo seems to be a reasonable solution.  I expect you screwed the transom to the stern post first, before bending and glueing the bottom of the transom to the hull bottom.

This little trick was my own idea, and I had a few builders tell me they imitated it with good results.
This was my Vacationer, back in 99-00.

Cut a 2x6 the same radius as the transom, and induce the curve with clamps.
That way you can focus on gluing and screwing, not wrestling with plywood.

Great idea, Konrad.  I'll split the rear brace to fit the sternpost and concentrate on the gluing and screwing!

The 2x6 is continuous across the back.
It's right at the top of the stern post.
