I was looking at memberâs website, the ones that we can post in our profiles when we join, and over the last 2 days we have had 6 new members that are very questionable. One is a direct link to a porn site the others are Russian sites that I suspect deal in spy ware, virus attacks or scams. Unless something is done quickly they will continue this invasion and attack on our forum. I doubt they will be satisfied with a sit and wait approach. I think they will attempt to hack into the clubs records to gain any information that may be there concerning members. I am sorry to post this here but left a post in the BYYB Org Board earlier and since that time 3 more suspects have joined the BYYB. I don't suggest you go to the sites listed but thatâs up to you. I will post this somewhere else if thatâs appropriate?

this has always been a problem and i expect it will remain one. those slime bags never quit. i have appreciated the vigilence that this boards administration has excersized. this is why i freely participate with the byyb. what a clean crew! --- wait, what am i saying???
on the same note, it has become a habit of mine to read the web address of the contact before selecting it. rather than clicking on the site button. usually, the address gives their intentions away.
Thanks Scott! My admin log in isn't working. Terry emailed me and I haven't heard from Bri yet. Any time someone notices something like that sing out. We can't prevent it but we sure can kill them after the fact. 8) 8)
I freely admit to reading the BYYB forum in the wee hours of the morning. Most nights I am up 2-3 times a night, at times to take medicine and at times because sleep eludes me. On the occasion where I found the links referred to I was trying to find members sites with pictures of their boats being built. I am about to finish the outside of the hull and was curious about how everyone else handled the edge of the joint between the hull bottom and sides. I try and search the forum before asking for advice.
I was not condemning the board or administration I just felt the sudden addition of 6 new questionable members was something I needed to bring to everybodyâs attention. Russia is number 1 in the world for cyber crime. They are beyond the reach of the law as we know it and freely practice whatever scheme they fancy. I am sure there are millions of Russians that are honorable. Bur honorable folk don't run porn sites or include plishing scams or embedded spyware.
I will share a story from my past. I am a retired police sergeant and near the end of my career ended up helping investigate and prosecute a child pornography case involving a number of people. We were able to successfully convict some of them. At least one of them was falsely accused because his computer downloaded images to his temporary internet files from a site the he was redirected to. His defense was he had no idea that the images were on his hard drive. He did admit to being redirected, unknowingly, to a site but closed his browser when the site popped up. If you are computer savvy you may know that you need to clear those files as any internet image you see on your screen is copied to your temp internet files and remains there until you remove it. The law says possession of such images is illegal. Just having them on your drive is enough to get you prosecuted. To be convicted they usually have to prove you knowingly have them but it's a grey area and just being accused is something you don't want to experience.
Having a link to such sites or any images of that nature are more then enough to get everyone on the membership list more attention then you want. This is a fantastic forum. The people on here freely share information that is invaluable to someone trying to build a boat. The genuine friendship between members is something worth protecting. If I came on strong about what I see as a threat please understand it is what I felt needed to be done.
Thanks Scott for your prompt action. I also sent emails to all officers and Craig responded immediately so I know they are working on it. Also Aaron I have to question calling this crew of scallywags a clean crew.
Good work, Terry. It's upsetting, when scumbag computer criminals make it an unpleasant experience to go online. This site is an example of the internet at its best... good people connecting because of a fun common interest. I consider hackers and porn people to be nothing more than terrorists.

Looks like another one has dropped in today. "mincesetty" wants us to check out the MILFs in Norway I guess. two others look suspicious, but I'll leave it to the admins to verify those.
terry, it wams my heart and restors my faith in the good people of this great nation when i read the sentiments posted on this thread. i apreciate your zeal on the matter. truth be told i should probably speek up a little more on these matters instead of remaining a part of the "silent majoity".

It is often forgotten but NO ONE can post a message anywhere but in the test forum until they have been activated by a person having administrator privelages. We considered closing even this loophole but needed a way for folks who were somehow blocked to contact us.
I would caution everyone to ignore the userlist links of anyone who has signed up recently and has not posted a message - these are usually folks who have not been authorized/verified - they will eventually either be deleted or approved. While we do get rid of the trash (I deleted over 20 last weekend) it does require someone taking the time and we aren't always able to get it done quickly.
