Here is a fellow who put together a nice chartplotter for less than $200.

A really nice feature of this setup is that the chart corrections can be downloaded for free on a weekly basis from NOAA, so that charts can be kept current at no cost, something most high cost chartplotters don't support.

I'm really happy with my garmin, but that's a good idea. Wish I could use those charts with my garmin though. I expect someone will hack a way to use them soon enough if they haven't already. I have a chart card for the gulf ready for our messabout $35 on ebay from New Orleans to Tampa. Free would have been better but that wasn't bad.
