I'm trying to build my first boat, something that the kids can possibly help with. I'm thinking about a pram or dinghy. I'd like to be able to sail/row and maybe stick a small outboard(gas or electric) on it. I would like to keep it under 10ft and be able to carry two adults or one adult and four children. Just a little something to learn to sail on and teach the kids. Thanks in advance. Shane
It's not a Stevenson design but I heartily recommend Jim Michalak's book "Boat Building for Beginners and Beyond" - http://www.duckworksbbs.com/media/books/.../index.htm

Also - I know of people who have built David Beede's "Summer Breeze" - http://www.simplicityboats.com/summerbreeze.html
Hi Shane, you have got to join us in June for our Sailstice event. We'll be at Hart State Park on Lake Hartwell and you'll have plenty of chances to sail with us on our boats. Bring the kids, we're planning all kinds of things for kids to do. Check out the SE Fleet forum for more info. We expect to see you there!

Here is a boat I have always been intrigued with. It just looks like it would be a lot of fun and an easy build. It is also just under 10 feet. It comes as a kit or you can just order plans. http://www.woodenboatstore.com/products.asp?dept=74
I read Wooden Boat and the last two issues included the plans for the Salt Bay Skiff. It is a very simple build you can do from the included plans (they were in the form of two booklets inserted in the normal magazine) or you could order larger plans for a small cost. Also you might send Paul Riccelli, a BYYB member, a PM or email to see if he has a design that might fit. I have seen a couple of his designs tha make me want to build a second boat. I have never seen him promote his designs on the forum but he sent me information on 2 when I emailed and asked for them.
William Go to Franks Messingabout board and B&B has a nice Pram you might like. It is a stich and glue, and a easy build. Sail, row, moter (small). The plans have full size patterns for all the peaces so you don't have to loft or guess about them. The cost of the plans was about $40.00. I have found by trial and error that buying plans is money well spent over free plans. especially for a new builder. Bud :?:

Thanks for all the information guys. After a little web surfing, and seeing just whats out there in the way of plans. I'm pretty mush leaning towards a pram of some sort. I really like the look of them. Now I just have to settle on a specific boat. Thanks again, Shane
