As recommended, I started removing more meat from my mast today. I used the shaping tool and sander. I was reluctant to do so earlier because I already have about 5 coats of varnish on her and she was looking very good. However, I must admit that I think the more rounded shape will look much better and I'm pretty sure my sail will go up and down much smooter than if I had left her alone. I still have plenty of time to get the varnish on her and the effort will have been worth it. Thanks for the recommendations!
