Having given up hope of ever owning a sliding compount mitre saw, I was looking at this jig.

Has anyone here built anything like it and if so, did it work out well for them?
Andrew,
We had a similar one that a jobber had made up for us from aluminum stock. We used it for a variety of panel cutting tasks and it worked out well in that use. It was a bit awkward to use for smaller stock work as it was designed to cross cut 4' wide plywood quickly and accurately. Ours was on a hinge mounted to a panel supporting frame on the wall. Quite similar to what is used at Home Depot, etc. for cutting panels. Just a lot simpler and lighter duty.
I don't know why this wouldn't work although it will always be a compromise for just about every small task where you might use a sliding miter saw. If you have a number of repetitive cutoff tasks it would be easy to set up and use, just cumbersome.
