In my lumber search I have discovered that 1X12 lumber is only available in length's of 8, 10 and 12 foot. The best I have seen is the 8 and 10 foot.

What did you guys do? Scarf joint? Butt joint? Glue and screw?

I got my keel for my wing dinghy in a white oak 1"x12"x14' at a lumber yard.
I went with 3/4" plywood for my Weekender's keel - but I'm very much in the minority. There are some strong opinions both for and against plywood keels.
Butt joint and screw/glue. Don't glass the keel.
